Murdock Park (West San Jose/Cupertino)

The main age 5-12 structure

Welcome to Murdock Park! This gem, located in West San Jose right near the Cupertino border, was one of my childhood favorites, and it's still a winner today. Its recent facelift makes it a great park for daredevils (that is one tall climbing structure!), kids who like to spin (there are several spinning features at the secondary playground area), and families with kids of different ages (the toddler and big kid areas are right next to each other). It may not be great for families with runners (it's not fenced) or for anyone on hot days (the main playground has almost no shade).

2-5 structure

Here are the details:

Positives:
🌱 Lots of play options! In one section of the park, there is a newly-renovated age 2-5 playground (cute structure, parent/child swing, four person teeter-totter) directly next to a newly-renovated age 5-12 playground (super tall slides with cool climbing features and a disc swing). About 50 yards away across the lawn, there is a completely separate stand-alone playground with an older (but large and still very nice) structure, several spinning features, and ten (!!!) swings.
🌱Easy parking on quiet neighborhood streets
🌱Restrooms conveniently located right next to the renovated play areas
🌱Four tennis courts
🌱Access to the San Tomas Aquino/Saratoga Creek Trail
🌱Some shady picnic tables
🌱A large lawn

Secondary play area

Negatives:
❌Almost no shade on the renovated play areas; the older play area, about 50 yards away, does get some shade from mature trees
❌Tanbark ground covering. I can't stand that stuff.

Overall, I think this park is a winner. If you're looking to try something new, put Murdock on your list.

Location: The corner of Wunderlich Drive and Castle Glen Avenue, close to Lawrence and Bollinger.

10 swings!!!

At the rear of the park near the tennis courts, you can cross a small bridge to reach the trail.
