The Procrastinator's Guide to Easter Fun (2017)

Over the past month or so, I've had several readers request that I prepare an Easter Egg Hunt guide for this year, as I've done in years past. The issue with seasonal guides, however, is that they're time sensitive, and if there's one thing that's nice about being a pro bono blogger (versus my old life as a lawyer, with constant court/client/billable hour obligations), it's that the only deadlines I have are the ones I set for myself. Which, when it comes to the blog, means not many.

But today, after three cups of coffee, I'm feeling ambitious, so I'm going to try to put out a guide to activities for this final weekend of the Easter season. For those who celebrate the holiday, I hope this helps you and your family have a wonderful few days. Happy Easter!

Saturday, April 15th
  • Campbell Easter Eggstravaganza: 9:00 a.m., Campbell Community Center. I've never been to this event, but every report I've heard from friends and readers is that it's a complete zoo. Like, parents climbing over little kids to get to eggs. I'm sure many people have a good time because it sounds like hundreds continue to turn out for the event, but if you plan to go, please keep an eye on your kiddos and don't expect the little ones to collect much (perhaps bring a few of your own to supplement an emptyish basket).
  • Campbell Bunnies & Bonnets Parade: 12:00 p.m. Downtown Campbell. This gets great reviews. Get there early for a good spot and have fun!
  • Easter Bunny Arrives by Helicopter: 11:00 a.m., Hiller Aviation Museum, San Carlos. We love Hiller, and their seasonal events are lots of fun. Saturday will feature various fun events, plus a model train display and the usual array of cool aviation artifacts.
  • San Jose State University Spring Football Game/Easter Egg Hunt: 10:30 a.m.: Easter Egg Hunt, Food Trucks, and Youth Football Camp (for grades 1-8). 12:30 p.m.: Spring Football Game. CEFCU Stadium, San Jose State.
  • Paper Egg Art and miscellaneous other activities. Various times (check link for schedule). Ardenwood Historic Farm, Fremont.
  • What's Brewin' at the Farm? 5:00-7:00 p.m. Ardenwood Historic Farm, Fremont. Check link for details -- sounds like a great family-friendly event (but not specifically Easter-related).
  • Big Bunny's Spring Fling. Various times -- see link for details. San Francisco Zoo. The zoo will have three egg hunts on Saturday and three on Sunday for different age groups. Registration is required, and it looks like several hunts are full, but it may be worth checking out. It also says some same day reservations will be available.
  • Eggstraordinary Easter Egg Hunt. Various times. Roaring Camp Railroad, Felton. Hunts are available with weekend steam train rides -- see site for times and reservations. Note that the hunt is not available with the beach train.
  • City of San Jose Easter Egg Hunts. Various times for different age groups/different locations. Reservations required. It looks like several hunts are at capacity, but plenty still have space available. Locations are at Berryessa (mostly full), Southside, and Mayfair community centers. See link for registration and details.
  • Waterworks Aquatics Easter Egg Hunt and Family Swim Night. 5:30 p.m. San Jose. Check the link for some details (see right sidebar), but you'll probably want to call for more.
  • 4H Kite Fly. 2:00 - 4:00 p.m., Martial Cottle Park, San Jose. Not exactly Easter-related, but definitely a good springtime activity. Check out the event page for details -- sounds like a neat outing for the kids!
Sunday, April 16th
  • Eggs and Bunnies. 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Ardenwood Historic Farm, Fremont. See link for details.
  • Easter Egg Hunt and Picnic at Gilroy Gardens. Hunt is at 3 p.m., with sign-ups at 2:30. Picnic is served at 12:00 and 1:00 p.m. Standard admission cost (or season pass) covers the Easter egg hunt; picnic meal is additional charge.
  • Easter Egg Hunt at Pump it Up. 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. San Jose location. See link for details.
  • Eggstraordinary Easter Egg Hunt. Various times. Roaring Camp Railroad, Felton. Hunts are available with weekend steam train rides -- see site for times and reservations. Note that the hunt is not available with the beach train.
Wishing all who celebrate a very happy Easter!
