This Weekend's Earth Day Fun (and much, much more!)

I've received a few questions from readers about family-friendly Earth Day events, and in compiling some suggestions, I discovered that there's quite a lot going on this weekend, both earth-focused and not. Here are some of the events on my radar -- hopefully one or more will work for your family!

Saturday, April 22nd (Happy Birthday, Grandma X!)
  • Earth Day BioBlitz, San Lorenzo Park, Santa Cruz. 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. All ages are welcome, but plan to get dirty as you hike along the river engaging in "citizen science." See link for more details.
  • San Jose Municipal Rose Garden Ladybug Release. 9:00 a.m. Details were posted on NextDoor, but you can see a screenshot of the post at the link. First release in March was a big hit!
  • Mountain View Downtown Spring Family Parade (and post-parade activities). 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Parade is in downtown Mountain View on Castro Street at Villa, with post-parade activities at Pioneer Park.
  • Earth Day San Francisco, Civic Center, 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
  • Let's Go Green Together Earth Day Fair, Fremont. 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. See link for activities and recycling opportunities.
  • March for Science, Silicon Valley, Downtown San Jose, 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. March starts at 11:00 at City Hall, then culminates in a rally at Plaza de Cesar Chavez, in conjunction with the Comic Con's family events.
  • Earth Day Celebration, Cupertino City Hall. 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • Touch a Truck Event, San Jose Parents Participating Nursery School, 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Kids LOVE these events, where they can get up close and personal with fun vehicles, including fire trucks, police cars, construction vehicles, and more. This is a fundraiser for SJPPNS, and the cost is $10 per family.
  • Celebrate Earth Day with Tiny Treks, Byxbee Park, Palo Alto. 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. A seed-planting activity, a scavenger hunt, healthy treats, stories, music, and movement, hosted by a really neat nature-based preschool. Free. They ask that you rsvp on the event page linked above so that they have enough treats for everyone.
  • MakerSpace Open Studio: Recycled eARTh Day. New Museum Los Gatos, 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. (both Saturday and Sunday). For ages 4+. This looks so cool! Check out the link for details. $5 materials fee for kids, $10 museum admission for adults.
  • Earth Day/2nd Anniversary Celebration, Magical Bridge Playground, Palo Alto. 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. SV Toddler wishes Magical Bridge a very happy 2nd birthday!
